The Cavaliers couldn’t keep up with Benedictine and fell 6-1 on Monday.
Clover Hill captured the lead in the first inning. Sean Hallinan reached on an error and was bunted over to second by Ethan Badin. Hallinan advanced to third after a ground ball by Khie Simms. The Cavaliers scored their first run of the season when Ryan Spinner hit a fly ball to right scoring Hallinan.
Benedictine knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning. Will Simon’s sac fly scored one run for Benedictine.
Benedictine took the lead for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third there was an error, scoring two runs, Greg Ryan singled off of David Wallace, driving in one run, and there was another error, scoring two more runs.
Jake Lingle earned the win for Benedictine. He threw four innings, allowing one run, one hit, and striking out two. Holden Fielder threw two innings, as two relievers helped Benedictine finish off the victory. Wallace took the loss for the Cavs. He pitched four innings, giving up six runs, six hits, and striking out three.
