The Cavaliers defeated Patrick Henry 7-2 on Monday to take their home opener. Patrick Henry got out to and early lead when Noah Zook drove in Hunter Hart in the Patriot’s half of the first. Clover Hill answered back with three runs of their own in their half of the first. Ryan Spinner got the Cavaliers started by reaching on an error by the third baseman and advanced to second on wild throw. David Coppedge then singled to left advancing Spinner to third base. Senior Ethan Badin cashed in the first Cavalier run by hitting a double down the left field line scoring Spinner and advancing Coppedge to third. Badin’s double brought up Bailey Burcume who also doubled scoring Coppedge and Badin.
Clover Hill tallied three more runs in the second inning, scoring on 2 walks, both with bases loaded, and an infield error.
The Cavaliers Tacked on one more run in the fifth when Darrian Jefferson doubled to center then advanced to third on a passed ball. Sean Hallinan drove in Jefferson with a deep fly to left, giving the Cavaliers a 5 run advantage going into the 6th inning.
William Flanagan earned the win for Clover Hill. He surrendered two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out five. Ryan Storts threw the final two scoreless innings in relief striking out two.
Conner Logan took the loss for Patrick Henry. He surrendered three runs on three hits in only one-third of an inning of work.
The Cavalier’s 10 hit effort and effective pitching were enough to even up Cover Hill’s record at 1-1. Weather permitting, the Cavs will return to action on Wednesday taking on J.R. Tucker at RF&P Park in Henrico at 6:00pm.
