Clover Hill Drops Opener to Powhatan
Clover Hill fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 13-2 loss to Powhatan on Thursday.
Powhatan got on the board right away with a solo home run by Painter, followed by an onslaught of hits from the Indian offense. Powhatan scored 7 runs on five hits to set the tone for the rest of the game.
In the end the Cavaliers struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Powhatan, giving up 13 runs.
Preston pitched Powhatan to victory. He went four innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out two. Tiller threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Cole Driscoll took the loss for Clover Hill. He surrendered nine runs on eight hits over two and a third innings.
Powhatan hit two home runs on the day. Painter went for the long ball in the first inning. Rini had a long ball in the third inning.
Cameron Geanas, Ryan Spinner, Ryan Storts, David Coppedge, Bailey Burcume, and Ethan Badin each collected hits for Clover Hill.
Ryan Storts and David Coppedge collected both of Clover Hill’s RBI’s.
Powhatan tallied 13 hits. Tillery, Rini, and Amiss each had multiple hits for Powhatan.
The Cavs will be back in action today – Friday 3/16 – as they face Cosby at 4:30.
